New GuitarTapp Beta App Available for Testing

We've been hard at work rebuilding GuitarTapp from the ground up. Here's a first look at the new beta and how you can help us shape it.

Over the past months, I've been working on a major rebuild of GuitarTapp - one that addresses the most common requests from users over the years and brings the app up to date with modern platforms.

Today, I'm opening up a beta program for the new app so that our most engaged users can help test it before the full public release.

What's changing

The original GuitarTapp Pro was built when the iPhone was still a new concept. While it has served hundreds of thousands of musicians well, the underlying architecture was starting to show its age. Rather than patch the existing app, I decided to build something new from the ground up.

Key improvements in the beta

Cross-platform support was the number one request from users. The new app is built as a Progressive Web App (PWA), which means it can run natively on iOS, Android, Windows, macOS, and inside any browser - all from a single codebase.

Real-time cloud sync replaces the old Dropbox-based sync. Your library now syncs automatically and instantly across all your devices the moment you make a change.

Improved library management with the new Books system. Instead of a single flat favorites list, you can now organize your songs into multiple books and setlists - perfect for keeping your gig setlists separate from your practice repertoire.

A cleaner, more modern interface that feels at home on any device or screen size, from a small phone to a large desktop monitor.

How to join the beta

The beta is available at chords.wiki. Simply open the link in your browser and you can install it to your home screen like a regular app.

During the beta:

  • Your existing GuitarTapp library is safe - the beta runs separately
  • You can import your GuitarTapp favorites to try the new experience without committing
  • Feedback is extremely valuable at this stage - please share what's working and what isn't

Share your feedback

The best place to report bugs, suggest improvements, or just share your experience is our growing Facebook community. We've already got a lively group of early testers there and the conversation is invaluable.

Thank you for being part of this journey - building GuitarTapp has been one of the most rewarding things I've done, and this next chapter is the most exciting yet.
