How-to: Migrate from GuitarTapp Pro to Chords.wiki

Complete step-by-step instructions for migrating your GuitarTapp Pro library - favorites, setlists, and Dropbox files - to Chords.wiki.

⚠️ Migration from GuitarTapp Pro using the method described below is not possible anymore. Refer to the Chords.wiki documentation for up-to-date instructions ⚠️

For those of you who haven't migrated from GuitarTapp Pro to Chords.wiki yet, here are the full instructions. Please read them through carefully before proceeding.

Part 1: In the GuitarTapp Pro app

1. Open the Favorites screen. Check the Status item under Synchronization.

  • If that displays your email address and some statistics, you probably don't have to proceed with the GuitarTapp steps below - your library is already uploaded. Skip to the Chords.wiki section.
  • If you want to start fresh because a previous import may not have uploaded all your changes, confirm that you want to sign out without synchronizing, then tap Status again.

2. Enter or confirm your email address at the prompt.

3a. If you did not have a sync account yet, GuitarTapp will send a password to your email. Check your inbox, copy the password, switch back to GuitarTapp, tap Status again, and enter the received password.

3b. If you already had an account, enter your password. If you've forgotten it, try anything and you'll be offered a password reset option.

4. ⚠️ PAY CLOSE ATTENTION ⚠️ If you see a warning asking whether to download your favorites from the server to overwrite your local ones - answer CANCEL. ⚠️ If you don't cancel, you'll lose the songs you had on your device.

After canceling, you'll be asked whether to upload your device's songs to the server. Confirm by selecting UPLOAD.

5. Your device's favorites and setlists will now be uploaded to the server. Once that's done, you're ready to switch to Chords.wiki.

Part 2: In the Chords.wiki app / website

1. Open Chords.wiki and navigate to the Library tab by tapping the Library icon in the bottom tab bar.

2. At the top of the Library screen, check if you are signed into an account.

  • If you aren't, tap Not signed in.
  • Tap Create Account if you haven't done so before, or Sign in otherwise.

Note: You can't sign in with your GuitarTapp account here - you need a Chords.wiki account. You also don't have to use the same email address you used in GuitarTapp.

3. Once signed into your Chords.wiki account, head back to the Library screen and tap GuitarTapp Pro library under the Import section.

4. At Step 1 of the import wizard, enter the email address and password used in GuitarTapp's Synchronization settings. If you don't remember your password, try something and tap Start - you'll be offered a reset if needed.

5. At Step 2, check if the number of Favorites and Setlists matches what you see in GuitarTapp.

  • If the numbers don't match, revisit the GuitarTapp steps above to make sure everything was uploaded.
  • Note: Chords.wiki might show more Favorites than GuitarTapp if you added text files to any setlists.

Tap Import to continue.

6. If you used Dropbox in GuitarTapp, you'll be asked to sign in to your Dropbox account to import those files.

7. At Step 3 (the last step), double-check that everything looks correct. Tap Save to complete the import.

You're done! 🎉

Your GuitarTapp favorites are now stored in a book called "GuitarTapp Pro Favorites" in Chords.wiki, and they'll automatically be available on every device you sign in with.
