How-to: migrate from GuitarTapp Pro to Chords.wiki

For those of you who haven’t migrated from GuitarTapp Pro to Chords.wiki yet, here are the full instructions. Please read them through carefully before proceeding.

In the GuitarTapp Pro app:

1) Open the Favorites screen, check the Status item under Synchronization. If that displays your email address and some statistics, you probably don’t have to proceed with these instructions. Skip the steps until the Chords.wiki part below unless you want to start over because of a previous import that might not have uploaded all your changes. If so, confirm that you want to sign out of your account without synchronizing. Then tap the Status item again.

2) Enter or confirm your email address at the prompt

3a) If you did not have a sync account yet, it will send a password to your email address. Check your email, copy or remember the password and switch back to GuitarTapp. Tap the Status item again, confirm your email address and enter the received password.

3b) If you already had an account, it will now ask you for a password. If you don’t remember your password, just try anything, you will be offered a password reset option. PAY ATTENTION AT STEP 4

4) IMPORTANT! If you get a warning/question about downloading your favorites from the server to overwrite your local ones, answer CANCEL. IF YOU DON’T, you’ll lose the songs you had on your device. After you selected CANCEL, you’ll now get the question to upload your device’s songs to the server. Confirm this question by selecting UPLOAD.

5) Your device’s favorites and setlists will now be uploaded to the server. Once that’s done, you can switch to Chords.wiki

In the Chords.wiki app / website:

1) Open Chords.wiki and navigate the Library tab by tapping the Library icon in the bottom tab bar

2) At the top of the Library screen, check if you are signed into an account. If you aren’t, tap the “Not signed in” item. Tap “Create Account” in the next screen if you haven’t done so before, “Sign in” otherwise. Note that you can’t sign in with your GuitarTapp account here, you need a Chords.wiki account. You also don’t have to use the same email address you used in GuitarTapp.

3) Once you are signed into your Chords.wiki account, head back to the Library screen and tap the “GuitarTapp Pro library” item under “Import“.

4) At the first step of the import wizard, enter the email address and password used in the GuitarTapp Synchronization settings. If you don’t remember your password, try something that might work and tap the Start button.

5) At the second step, check if the number of Favorites and Setlists to import are the same as you see in GuitarTapp. If not, check if you have followed the above steps to get your GuitarTapp library uploaded to the server. Note that Chords.wiki might display more Favorites than you have in GuitarTapp if you added text files to any setlists. Tap the Import button to proceed.

6) If you used Dropbox in GuitarTapp, you will be asked to sign into your Dropbox account now to be able to import those files.

7) At the third (and last) step, double-check if what it’s about to import is correct. If so, tap the Save button. Done! Your GuitarTapp favorites have now been stored into a Book named “GuitarTapp Pro Favorites”, and they will be automatically become available in Chords.wiki on every device you sign into your account with!

GuitarTapp is transitioning to Chords.wiki

I’m excited to announce that the brand-new version of GuitarTapp is now available! It addresses many of the issues found in GuitarTapp Pro and ChordPro, introduces exciting new features, and will fully replace the old apps in the coming weeks. After being thoroughly tested by over 1,000 users during development, it’s safe to say it’s ready for everyone to enjoy!

Why upgrade?

  • The new app works on all platforms and includes enhanced functionality like real-time syncing across multiple devices.
  • You can import your current favorites to test-drive the new app without affecting your existing library.
  • It’s installable directly from the website at https://chords.wiki, making it feel just like an app from the App Store.

For quick support, migration instructions, updates, and promotions, we invite you to join our Chords.wiki user group on Facebook (already 1K+ members strong!). Not on Facebook? No worries, you can also join our Discord server for the latest info.

It’s important to migrate soon, as the current GuitarTapp services, including song search, will be discontinued by December 31, 2024. Don’t worry, you’ll have free access to Chords.wiki during the transition, and as a loyal GuitarTapp user, you’ll receive a generous discount on the Pro membership as a thank-you for your support.

If you have any questions or feedback, I’d love to hear from you in our Facebook group or Discord server, where the community and I are actively engaging with users. It’s the best place to stay updated and get quick responses!

UPDATE: you can find the latest migration guide here and in the Facebook user group
